The reverse features a reclining or floating female figure with similarly ornate scrollwork. The three-figure scene is reminiscent of the traditional Three Graces motif, although the exact subject and maker have not been confirmed.

The case features multiple hinged sections/compartments, an interior spring mechanism, and a ribbed match-striking surface along the end.

Metal appears to be a silver-tone plated base metal with areas of the underlying warmer brass/gold-tone metal visible from age and use. No sterling silver claim is being made. I have not located a visible maker’s mark.

This is an estate-found antique and is being sold in its naturally aged condition. It shows substantial authentic surface patina, finish/plating loss, oxidation/discoloration, scratches and general wear consistent with age and use. I have intentionally not polished or restored it.

Please examine all photographs closely as they are an important part of the description.

Item specifics

Type: Match Safe / Vesta Case
Era: Late Victorian / Early 20th Century
Approx.
